Biomedical Informatics Core
The Biomedical Informatics Core (BMI) is a resource for service, education, and innovation in the management of clinical and translational biomedical data. We can help clinical/translational researchers to:.jpg)
- Determine what clinical data is available in the electronic medical record (for power calculation, for eligibility determination, and/or for data collection during a study)
- Determine which solution for electronic case report forms is most suited to your clinical/translational research study
- Determine which tools are available for linking high-throughput instrumentation data for your study with clinical and care report form data
- Determine which resources are necessary to include in a grant proposal to enable BMI to electronically gather and manage data in support of your core
- Assist in language to support informatics resources for grant applications
- Coordinate with the Center for Biomedical Statistics as needed
We offer pre-award consultation for grant preparation (10-20 hours), extended consultation (>20 hours), and post-award consultation. Pre-award consultations are free if future BMI resource funding is included in your grant proposal.
For example, a researcher enrolling patients into a translational research study at the UW may ask for an extended consultation to:
- identify eligible patients based on electronic medical record (EMR) data,
- extract laboratory data from the EMR for enrolled patients,
- collect case report form data electronically, and
- link this data together for statistical analysis.
