ITHS KL2 Prospective Scholars
We are pleased that you are considering an application to the ITHS KL2 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development Program, funded through the National Institutes of Health's CTSA initiative. Doctoral level Scholars are welcome from all health professions. Intensively mentored research experience will be the centerpiece of the program, and the ITHS offers an extraordinary range of research cores, centers, and mentors to support this work. Scholars are encouraged to affiliate themselves with one or more of the ITHS Cores. Most will complete an MS degree from the School of Public Health or Pharmacy, in a Clinical Research Track.
We will train investigators to acquire depth in a specific area of research, but also breadth of knowledge about the full spectrum of clinical and translational investigation. We will provide them with methodological knowledge and practical skills for conducting high quality integrative clinical research, and create an environment that infuses them with the excitement of clinical research, and nurtures their early career development. We believe that our graduates will be future research leaders prepared to conduct interdisciplinary clinical research using the highest ethical standards and capitalizing on new technology and informatics tools.
We are now accepting applications for entrance to the ITHS KL2 Program through October 15, 2010 for entrance into the Program beginning July 2011

Application items to complete
- Application Form. Please complete all sections. We understand that some of the material is duplicated on your C.V., but the completed application form will assist the Evaluation Committee in reviewing applicants from different backgrounds. Attach additional pages to list additional employment, training, etc., only after you have included the most important information on the application form.
- Curriculum Vitae or Resume
- 1-page personal statement about your interest, background, and long-term career plans
- 2-page description of your specific plans for using the ITHS KL2 award
- Letters of Reference. Please have your referees complete an evaluation form and include it with a letter of support. Request reference letters be sent to you in sealed envelopes, or directly to the KL2 Program (address to Dr. John Amory, Chair of the Selection Committee). If letters are sent to you, include them with the departmental application without opening them. All letters must be received by October 15, 2010.
- Graduate School Application. If you have interest in pursuing a graduate degree, you are responsible for making a separate application to the Graduate School and the department in the Graduate School in which you have interest.
Timing of application process
Your application must be received by October 15, 2010. It is your responsibility to ensure that your application is completed and on time.
If your application is forwarded to the second round of review, a very important component of this application will be your personal interviews with the evaluation committee. If you are selected for an interview, we will be arranging these visits during October and November. You are encouraged to use your visit as an opportunity to meet with potential mentors and collaborators. Applicants will be financially responsible for their own travel and lodging; applicants with true need requirements may petition the Program to find out if travel support is available. However, we expect that these funds will be very limited.
The committee intends to notify applicants of funding decisions by January 2011.
