Proteomics Research Resource for Integrative Biology/Pacific Northwest National Laboratory
| Description | Capabilities of the PNNL NCRR Biomedical Technology Resource CenterThe PNNL “Proteomics Research Resource for Integrative Biology” provides state of the art high sensitivity mass spectrometry capabilities for precisely and accurately measuring levels of nearly all expressed proteins and their modified forms providing new insights into the molecular nature and operation of cells, cell signaling pathways and networks, the cell cycle, cellular differentiation, and other processes relevant to human health and to the progression of various disease states. This NCRR Center serves the biomedical research community by developing and integrating new proteomics technologies for biological applications, disseminating the new technologies, and training scientists in their use. The three technological Cores of the Center aim at development of : 1) improved technologies for spatial and temporal proteomics, that includes approaches to better define the compartment localization of proteins, primarily with respect to membrane compartments and to quantify the dynamics of proteins between compartments; 2) higher throughput, more sensitive, and much more robust quantitative measurements of proteomes that provide broader dynamic range and greater coverage of proteins and their modifications; and 3) computational and bioinformatics tools needed to provide information based on data with statistically sound measures of quality, so as to facilitate new biological understandings. Type of proteomics collaborations the Center likes to solicitThe PNNL Resource Center is open to collaborations and has significant capacity to engage biomedically important projects. Collaborative applications are selected on the basis of their scientific and biomedical relevance, overall scientific impact, as well as their capacity to benefit from the Center’s unique capabilities and drive the development of new technologies. The scope of applications considered, but is not limited to, include areas of microbial pathogenicity, trauma and surgical research, cellular migration, biofluid analysis, signal transduction, neuroproteomics, radiation response, chronic virulent infections, and oncology. While the Resource Center can help to support efforts to gather needed preliminary results for grant applications and manuscripts, separate support is needed for Center efforts that are more of an extended nature. Review Process:Investigators interested in collaborating with the NCRR Biomedical Technology Resource Center should contact Dr. David Camp, Associate Director, to have a brief discussion about the collaboration possibilities. Discussions are followed up with the submission of a short collaborative research proposal that describes the scope of work and outcomes. The proposal will be reviewed internally to determine if: (1) the proposed research is appropriate for the Center and (2) to ensure the required internal resources are available. Prioritization will be on projects that have high scientific/biomedical impact and are taking advantage of the high throughput and high sensitivity capabilities of the Center’s technology. |
