Northwest Institute of Genetic Medicine (NWIGM)
| Description | The Northwest Institute of Genetic Medicine (NWIGM) is a collaboration of Institutions funded by the Washington State Life Sciences Discovery Fund, UWMC, and Seattle Children´s Hospital, which includes Group Health, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute, and biotechnology. The goal of the Northwest Institute of Genetic Medicine is to support translational genetic research by improving access for clinical investigators to cutting edge human subject support, informatics and phenotype definition, genomic technologies, and innovative genetic analyses. This support will include a pilot biorepository of Group Health subjects with deep phenotyping accessible via their long-term electronic medical records. We will also study the outcomes of utilizing genetic information in the clinic. The Institute's mission is to understand the association of genes with disease risk, and to advance and transform clinical and translational research. NWIGM Access grants offer assistance to investigators by initiating pilot data collection. These grants provide translational investigators access to support for; enhancing the capabilities of investigators to carry out novel research strategies on common and more rare human diseases, initiating outcomes research on the clinical use of genetic technologies, assisting and promoting the protection of human research volunteers and exploring the ethical delivery of genetic medicine, and for promoting the career development of junior faculty members. |
