The PRISM Readability Training Workshop

UW Health Sciences, K069 The PRISM Readability Training Workshop is designed to help health researchers and other health care professional create consent forms and other print materials that are clear, readable, and well-organized. The session will illustrate concrete strategies for writing in plain language through a variety of real-world examples and hands-on editing exercises tailored for the research environment.
Specific topics to be covered include:
- Converting research jargon, medical terminology, and other complex terms into plain language
- Using reader-friendly sentence structure and formatting
- Identifying concepts or procedures that are confusing and improving overall organization and clarity
- Avoiding common pitfalls that limit consent form readability
- Making your recruitment materials meaningful for the intended audience
- Checking the final reading level of your materials
- The PRISM Toolkit and other helpful plain language resources
