A Discussion of a High-throughput, Non-targeted Biochemical Profiling Platform and Case Studies (ITHS – Metabolomics Users Group Brown Bag Series)
Date and time:
Tue, 10/20/2009 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Location:
South Lake Union, Room 123B There are many challenges associated with creating a functioning non-targeted biochemical profiling platform. Current methods are often very time consuming and result in many false leads. In the first part of the presentation I will discuss Metabolon’s analytical platform; a non-targeted, analytical metabolomics method which utilizes GC/MS and UPLC/MS/MS2 and a in-house generated spectral library of over 1500 compounds. This platform permits rapid project completion, broad metabolome coverage, high confidence identifications, and does so with low process variability and a low false discovery rate. For the rest of the presentation I will share some case studies from projects we have completed using this biochemical profiling technology, specifically on the discovery of a drug’s mechanism of action and biomarker discovery of prostate cancer aggressivity.
