Development of Multidimensional Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Methods for Metabolomics

Date and time:
Tue, 11/17/2009 - 12:00pm - 1:00pm
Location:
South Lake Union, Room 123A
Series: ITHS Technology Resources Seminar Series

We are developing and implementing advanced analytical chemistry technology (instrumentation, methodology and software) using gas chromatography (GC), mass spectrometry (MS), solid phase micro extraction (SPME) sampling, and chemometrics (multivariate data analysis) to provide solutions in several application areas: health biomarker discovery, food safety and security, forensics, environmental, and industrial discovery. In this presentation, the focus will be on metabolomics.  For chemical measurements at the discovery stage, instrumentation must provide a highly informative chemical signature.  For this we combine comprehensive two-dimensional gas chromatography with time-of-flight mass spectrometry (GC x GC - TOFMS), and chemometrics.
