Wondering how to deliver effective and engaging presentations about complex research topics? Need a refresher on best practices in public speaking?

In this ITHS Career Development Series event, Dr. Miles Coleman will draw on his experience and research in teaching science communication to provide practical tips and skills to help investigators become more effective and confident when speaking publicly about their work.

By attending, you will learn how to:

  • Appreciate the importance of audience analysis in scientific contexts
  • Systematically organize and present information
  • Distinguish between communication performance and speech performance
  • Practice delivering presentations with an awareness of the characteristics of effective speaking

Speaker Biography
Dr. Miles C. Coleman is an Instructor in the program on Digital Cultures at Seattle University. His research and teaching interests include ethics; rhetorical theory and criticism; participatory cultures of media; science communication; new media and society; moral philosophy (online); and classical rhetoric.
