Applications for ITHS KL2 Program Due October 15

[NOTE: The application period for this award is now closed] Finding enough time to dedicate to research pursuits can be a challenge for any junior faculty member. After fulfilling teaching and clinical responsibilities, free periods of time left for research are often few and far between.

The Institute of Translational Health Sciences’ KL2 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development Program, which is now accepting applications to join its 2016 cohort, seeks to support junior faculty in overcoming this challenge.

“Early-career investigators face tremendous demands on their time, which often means they end up pushing their research ideas to the side,” explained Dr. Mary L. (Nora) Disis, Principal Investigator of ITHS and Associate Dean for Translational Science in the University of Washington School of Medicine. “Our KL2 program provides and protects the time necessary for these promising investigators to focus on their research and to establish themselves as leaders of the next generation of clinical and translational researchers.”

The ITHS KL2 Program offers three years of rigorous training in clinical and translational research for junior faculty in an interdisciplinary cohort environment. Other benefits include 75% of the KL2 Scholar’s salary up to $85,000 per year, pilot research funds up to $25,000 per year, travel funding, and tuition support for the completion of a master’s degree in Epidemiology, Biostatistics, or Health Services Research.

“The level of support offered by the KL2 program is extremely difficult to match, which is one of the reasons admittance to our program is so competitive,” shared Dr. Disis. “We are extremely impressed each year with the caliber of applicants, and we anticipate this year’s pool of applicants will be no different.”

ITHS is accepting applications for the KL2 program until October 15, 2015, and anticipates admitting three members to its 2016 cohort.
