ITHS Launches New Online Learning Center

The Institute of Translational Health Sciences announced today the launch of its new Self-Directed Learning Center. This free online learning repository for translational health sciences is adaptable to individual learning needs and covers domains ranging from research initiation to data analysis and management to professional regulations and skills.

“We saw a need to better manage and integrate our online educational content to ensure it is useful and impactful for the researchers we serve,” said Dr. Cathryn Booth-LaForce, ITHS Senior Faculty Director and the Charles and Gerda Spence Professor of Nursing at the University of Washington. “As a result, we designed our new Learning Center around the end user to provide a flexible, learner-centered educational experience.”

The Learning Center is designed to serve users with beginning, intermediate, or advanced levels of knowledge of clinical and translational sciences. Users are able to improve their knowledge at their own pace, one course at a time, and can track their progress as they complete training sessions in their area(s) of interest.

The Learning Center has been accepted for discussion as a poster presentation at theTranslational Science 2014 Meeting, which will take place April 9 to 11, 2014, in Washington, DC. It has also been accepted for a round table and poster session at the National Organization of Research Development Professionals Annual Research Development Conference, which is taking place May 19 to 21, 2014, in Portland, Oregon. These presentations will detail the development of the Learning Center, the instructional design theory, and implementation, including lessons learned that can be adopted by others.

Potential users can access the Learning Center by going to www.iths.org/learningcenter. Any questions regarding the Center can be directed to the ITHS Education team by email at ithsedu@uw.edu.
