Similarly, members benefit from hearing the issues coming through other consultation services and sharing information and experiences about their clinical research ethics consultations.<\/p>\n<p>The primary consultant can follow these steps:[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Before the Call<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Obtain permission from the consult requestor, and provide the requestor with two PDFs:\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iths.org\/crecc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2015\/07\/CRECC_Member-Biosketches_2015-08-16.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Research Ethics Collaborative: Member Biosketches (PDF)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.iths.org\/crecc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2015\/07\/CRECC-Requestor-Information_072415.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Research Ethics Collaborative: Requestor Information (PDF)<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Explain that the collaborative consultants have agreed that they will not share any details without the requestor\u2019s permission. We recommend that you exclude any highly sensitive information from the group discussion.<\/li>\n<li>Contact the Collaborative via the listserv to gauge interest and availability prior to scheduling and provide the group with the following information:\n<ul>\n<li>Date, time, and duration of consultation.<\/li>\n<li>Call-in details.<\/li>\n<li>A brief description of the reason for the consultation.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Print the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iths.org\/crecc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2015\/07\/CRECC-Consultant-Information_072415.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Research Ethics Collaborative: Consultant Information (PDF)<\/a> and have this available for the call.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>During the Call<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>After your introductory remarks, do a roll call of the consultants you expect to be on the call. At the end, ask if anyone else is on the call and ask them to introduce themselves.<\/li>\n<li>Ask the consult requestor to present the case.<\/li>\n<li>After the case is presented, ask any clarifying questions.\n<ul>\n<li>Ask collaborative consultants if they any clarifying questions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Discuss issues with requestor.\n<ul>\n<li>Ask collaborative consultants if they have additional comments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Develop recommendations with requestor and summarize.\n<ul>\n<li>Ask collaborative consultants if they have any final comments.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>After the Call<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Send consult report draft to those who participated for review and include a reply-by date.<\/li>\n<li>Consider any comments from the other consultants to be advisory. You remain responsible for the content of the consult. In essence, the collaborative group is advising, but you are responsible for the content that is communicated back to the consult requestor.<\/li>\n<li>Send requestor final report.<\/li>\n<li>Email final report to collaborative consultants who participated in the call.<\/li>\n<li>Send out evaluation to requestor and collaborative consultants who participated in the call.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;For Collaborative Consultants&#8221;][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]All members who wish to participate in consultations should provide a short biosketch and photo to Katie Porter at <a href=\"mailto:kathryn.porter@seattlechildrens.org\">kathryn.porter@seattlechildrens.org<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>When a Collaborative member invites other members for a specific in-progress consultation, follow these steps:[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>Before the Call<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Promptly respond to the primary consultant\u2019s invitation to participate, indicating whether or not you will be present for the call.<\/li>\n<li>Commit to being present at the start of the consultation to avoid repetition.<\/li>\n<li>Print the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.iths.org\/crecc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/33\/2015\/07\/CRECC-Consultant-Information_072415.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Research Ethics Collaborative: Consultant Information (PDF)<\/a> and have this available for the call.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>During the Call<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Hold your questions and comments until invited by the primary consultant to share, allowing the primary consultant the opportunity to obtain the relevant information in a more straightforward and conversational manner.<\/li>\n<li>Once invited to actively participate, introduce yourself by name before asking clarifying questions or contributing your thoughts and opinions.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h4>After the Call<\/h4>\n<ol>\n<li>Send any questions or comments that remain after the consultation to the primary consultant via email.<\/li>\n<li>Do not share any details of the consultation unless permitted to do so by the consult requestor. Issues of confidentiality and reporting disclosures are the responsibility of the primary consultant.<\/li>\n<li>If invited to review a draft consultation report, respond in a timely fashion. The primary consultant will provide a reply-by date when the report is circulated.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_empty_space height=&#8221;22px&#8221;][\/vc_column_inner][\/vc_row_inner][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;Confidentiality, Reporting, and Liability&#8221;][vc_row_inner row_type=&#8221;row&#8221; type=&#8221;full_width&#8221; text_align=&#8221;left&#8221; css_animation=&#8221;element_from_right&#8221;][vc_column_inner][unordered_list style=&#8221;circle&#8221; animate=&#8221;yes&#8221;]<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Collaborative consultants are expected to keep the details of the discussion confidential.<\/li>\n<li>Each consult service has its own guidelines for limits of confidentiality and reporting obligations. Those outside of the initiating institution are expected to not make disclosures to the requestor\u2019s institution or to their own.<\/li>\n<li>Many consult services have clarified with their institution that consultation is part of their official duties and covered under their standard liability protections.
