Rodger Kessler, Ph.D.

Rodger Kessler, PhD, associate professor at the University of Vermont, will be at Harborview Medical Center to present Grand Rounds to Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences. Dr. Kessler has been working with Benjamin Littenberg, MD, University of Vermont, and Kari Stephens, PhD and Laura-Mae Baldwin, MD, MPH from the University of Washington on a complex multi-site trial for Integrating Behavioral Health and Primary Care (IBH-PC).

There are five CTSAs currently affiliated with the trial including University of Washington. ITHS Investigators Drs. Stephens and Baldwin have helped launch this trial through providing expert consultation to the UVM research team to craft their recruitment strategies, onboarding materials, contracts, and co-develop intervention materials. They will continue to be involved with the design and implementation of forthcoming ancillary studies.

Some specific examples of the ITHS resources and networks that supported this effort include:

  • Gathering pre-award support of the grant application to the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI)
  • Leveraging the  WWAMI region Practice and Research Network (WPRN) to recruit eight regional practices to participate in the trial
  • Supporting the electronic health record data coordination through DATA Quest

Join Dr. Kessler for his presentation titled “Is primary care behavioral health truly integrated? Early lessons from the Integrated Behavioral Health in Primary Care (IBH-PC) trial and other efforts”
