Description

Leaf is a self-service tool which provides UW investigators with a user friendly interface for querying the electronic health system records within UW Medicine. Due to its direct access to the university health data system, Leaf is currently only available to investigators and research teams affiliated with the University of Washington Medicine Department who have an AMC account.

If you currently have AMC System access and are using Leaf, join us for this hands on workshop. Bring your ideas, example cases, and problem queries along with your own laptop. We’ll explore ways to improve your search results!

Tip: Sign up for Leaf access before the workshop

Learning objectives

By the end of this session, you will be able to:

  • Perform more sophisticated queries in Leaf
  • Observe the work and challenges of your colleagues also using Leaf
  • Know where to go when you need help with Leaf

About the trainers

Ann Madhaven is the Nursing and Data Services Librarian at the University of Washington’s Health Sciences Library. She provides support to the UW School of Nursing, and clinical nurses working at UWMC, Harborview Medical Center, and Northwest Hospital Medical Center. Ann also offers support for research data management and acts as an evangelist for innovative/emerging institutional research tools available to the health sciences schools and hospital staff. In addition to research data management consultations, she is available for consultations concerning literature searching, systematic review development, identification of research resources, and the utilization of literature resources. Ann applies previous experience as an occupational therapist, public health librarian, and data indexer at the Institute of Health Metrics and Evaluation to her role as a liaison librarian, TRAIL, and REDCap tier-one support staff member.

Bas de Veer is a medical informatician who specializes in bridging the gap between the worlds of medicine and informatics. He possesses more than nine years of experience in the areas of software implementation, training, user experience, and research consulting. Bas currently governs a REDCap installation of more than 4,500 users for ITHS. In that capacity, he is responsible for end-user training, REDCap consulting, and the day-to-day operations of the local REDCap installation. Bas earned both a Bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Medical Informatics at the University of Amsterdam.
