18 May Precision PRO Survey
Even in medical fields with a long research history of Patient-reported Outcomes (PROs), the use of PROs in routine clinical care is still low. One barrier to the use of PROs in clinical care is determining meaningful PROs that are individualized to each patient. Hence, in this study we aim to develop patient-reported outcome measures that are tailored to, and hence potentially meaningful for, individual patients.
What we are hoping to learn:
One barrier to the use of PROs in clinical care and research is determining meaningful levels of change on a PRO at the individual patient level. Patients vary widely in what they consider a meaningful change.
The second complicating factor is the use of the same PROs for every patient. Typically, all patients answer the same set of questions instead of just those that are most meaningful to them personally.
Therefore, in this study we will test precision PROs with a cancer patient sample that allows patients to answer only the questions most meaningful to them.
What will happen if I join the study:
People who agree to join the study will be asked to complete a 30-minute online survey. Participants will complete questions on pain and function as well as their opinions on different pain measures. Participants will be asked to complete a shorter version of the survey (15 minutes) one week later. At the end of the study after completing the online surveys, participants will be sent a $40 Amazon gift card for participating in this study.
