Parents are filling multiple conflicting roles during this pandemic as they juggle their own jobs and the new role of teacher to their child(ren), while also struggling with concerns about their employment, financial security, and family health. We will recruit parents from the community and also invite families who have participated in our previous studies and agreed to participate in future research. In this way, we will have a subsample for whom we have significant data on their pre-COVID functioning.

Participant facing summary below:
The Pediatric Emotion Regulation Laboratory (PERL) at Fordham University is currently recruiting parents with a child in 1st through 6th grade who has a current diagnosis of attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), or a child who does not have any diagnosed mental health disorders for a research study about parenting during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Study participation involves a single online session during which you will be asked to complete questionnaires about how COVID-19 and related social distancing and distance learning practices have impacted you, your parenting, and your family. It only takes about 30 minutes to complete. Upon completion, you will be entered into a raffle for the chance to win a $100 Amazon gift card. In addition, for every study participant, the PERL lab will donate $1 to NoKidHungry to help children affected by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Participant Eligibility

Participants will include parents of children who either have a diagnosis of attention-deficit/ hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) or who do not have a psychiatric diagnosis, who are first through sixth graders. Participants will include mothers and fathers (only one per family) from a range of socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds.

Contact

Mariah DeSerisy
(505) 850-3554

Additional Study Details

Full Study Title
Parenting during the COVID-19 Pandemic

Study ID: 1542

ClinicalTrials.gov Link:

Start Date: 05/07/2020

End Date: 05/07/2021

Investigator(s)
Amy K.
