{"id":5228,"date":"2022-11-18T07:08:20","date_gmt":"2022-11-18T15:08:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.iths.org\/participate\/?p=5228"},"modified":"2022-11-28T06:11:42","modified_gmt":"2022-11-28T14:11:42","slug":"research-on-family-and-home-technology-use","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.iths.org\/participate\/research-on-family-and-home-technology-use\/","title":{"rendered":"Research on Family and Home Technology Use"},"content":{"rendered":"<div class=\"box summary\"><\/div>\n<p>Our research study examines how people 65+ and their support network use internet-connected devices in their homes to stay connected and to care for each other while living apart.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>Participating in this study consists of a 90 minute group interview over Zoom with an individual aged 65+ and their adult family member with whom they use smart home devices.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>Both individuals will each be compensated with a $40 gift card ($80 total).<\/p>\n<h3>Participant Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p>You must fulfill the below criteria to participate in our study:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Are over 18 and use smart home devices to communicate with or support a friend\/family member aged 65+ who can join us in the interview,<br \/>\nOR<\/li>\n<li>Are aged 65+ and use smart home devices to communicate with a friend\/family member over 18 who can join us in the interview.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Both individuals must be able to communicate in English and have reliable access to an internet and phone connection.<\/p>\n<p>Examples of smart home device use include (but are not limited to):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Using trackers to check up on family members\u2019 health or sleep<\/li>\n<li>Sharing home controls, automatic reminders, shopping lists, and music playlists via smart home speakers<\/li>\n<li>Calling or checking up on each other through home cameras or smart speakers like Amazon Ring Indoor Cams, Google Nest, or Facebook Portal<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>You can read more about our study here (<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uw.edu\/shengzw\/iot\/\">https:\/\/sites.uw.edu\/shengzw\/iot\/<\/a>) and see the information sheet here (<a href=\"https:\/\/sites.uw.edu\/shengzw\/iot\/information\/\">https:\/\/sites.uw.edu\/shengzw\/iot\/information\/<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Please feel free to let us know if you have any questions about our study!
