The University of Washington SPEAC Lab is inviting individuals who have experienced changes in their thinking and memory; and have been diagnosed with, or are concerned about Mild Cognitive Impairment or early-stage dementia. This study involves answering survey questions about their experiences communicating with other people. We ask participants to nominate at least one family member or friend to also answer survey questions about their own experiences. Your participation will help healthcare providers support people with mild cognitive impairment \/ early dementia and the important people in their lives to stay connected through communication.<\/p>\n

Participants experiencing the thinking and memory changes will complete their questionnaires during a remote phone or zoom session with a research staff member standing by to assist as needed. That session will be 45-60 minutes. Family and friends will complete SEPARATE surveys online, at their own time and pace (we can mail paper questionnaires if preferred). Data are not shared between participants. This study is open to anyone in the U.S.<\/p>\n

Each participant will be mailed a $25 check upon survey completion.<\/p>\n

Participant Eligibility<\/h3>\n

Has noticed changes in thinking and memory, and is diagnosed with or concerned about dementia or Mild Cognitive Impairment
\nLives in the US
\nAble to complete questionnaires about their experiences communicating with other people with the help of a research assistant standing by on phone or zoom video call
\nAble to complete questionnaires in English
\nHas at least 1 family member or friend who agrees to also participate in the study to complete their own questionnaires
\nLives in the community (not a nursing home)
\nAge 18 years or older<\/p>\n
