The ACE Study, funded by the Breast Cancer Research Foundation, will investigate how a 45-minute bout of moderate exercise can affect the biology of the human body. This could help explain the influence of physical activity in women with breast cancer.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>You may be eligible to join the ACE study if you are:<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>&#8211; aged 36-75<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>&#8211; no menstrual period for the past 12 months<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>&#8211; have been diagnosed with breast cancer Stage 0-3c (i.e., breast cancer that hasn\u2019t spread to other parts of the body) within the past 5 years<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>&#8211; finished your main treatment at least 6 months ago, but can still be on long term hormone treatment<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>&#8211; can visit our exercise center for two clinic visits at the Fred Hutch Cancer Center\u2019s Prevention Center at South Lake Union, Seattle WA.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>If you are eligible and consent to participate, we will invite you to a clinic visit at the Fred Hutch for a physical examination to ensure that it is safe for you to exercise. If you are eligible based on your test results, and would still like to participate, a computer program will assign you by chance to one of the following groups:<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>1. Exercise Group: Participants in this group will have a 45-minute bout of exercise on a stationary bike<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>2. Resting Control Group. Participants will sit for 45 minutes.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>At a second visit, you will be asked to give a blood sample, a sample of fat tissue from your abdomen, and a sample of muscle tissue from your thigh. These samples will be collected under sterile conditions using a needle and will be about the size of a pencil eraser. Then, you will either exercise or rest for 45 minutes, and give another blood sample, and samples of fat and muscle tissue. A third blood sample will be collected one hour later.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>Benefits to Participants.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>&#8211; Participants will receive information about their study test results, and a brochure that will provide individuals with tips and advice to help achieve success with their current of potential fitness plan<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>&#8211; At the end of the second visit, all study participants who give blood and tissue samples will receive $200.<br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/><br aria-hidden=\"true\" \/>More details including a link to a screening questionnaire can be found at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/urldefense.com\/v3\/__https:\/\/theacestudy.org\/__;!!K-Hz7m0Vt54!iVNgchHtadXdDgU_NFCAVP6bScL5uyHRe2Y5YP_ZwcL8u_uh4Qzu_hoVKdVYMbjlyn8ItO-0mA$\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-auth=\"NotApplicable\" data-linkindex=\"3\">https:\/\/theacestudy.org\/<\/a><\/p>\n<h3>Participant Eligibility<\/h3>\n<p>&#8211; Female and aged 36\u201375 years<br \/>\n&#8211; A history of Stage 0-3 breast cancer diagnosed within the past 5 years<br \/>\n&#8211; Completed treatment at least 6 months ago (if you are taking long-term hormone treatment you may still be eligible)<br \/>\n&#8211; Able to travel to the Fred Hutch Cancer Center in South Lake Union, Seattle for 2 clinic visits. Each visit will take between 2-3 hours<br \/>\n&#8211; Able to exercise safely at a moderate intensity for 45 minutes<br \/>\n&#8211; Willing to be assigned by chance by a computer program to either the exercise or control (45 mins resting period) group<br \/>\n&#8211; Consent to release medical records to verify cancer diagnosis and to review health information<br \/>\n&#8211; No menstrual period for the past 12 months (due to either menopause, surgery or a side-effect<br \/>\nof treatment)<br \/>\n&#8211; Willing to undergo a muscle and adipose tissue biopsy before and after the exercise and control.
