The session will take about 1 hour, and participants will be compensated at $40 per hour. If needed, we will also cover parking costs.

The study will begin with a hearing and vision test. Afterward, participants will sit at a computer while their eye movements are tracked. During the session, they will watch videos, listen to audio clips, and repeat back what they hear.

This research aims to improve our understanding of how people process speech, especially in challenging conditions like background noise. Your participation will provide valuable insights into hearing, speech, and language processing.

Participant Eligibility

Age 18 or older
English as their first language
Normal hearing (as confirmed during the hearing test)
Able to read and see clearly without the use of contacts or glasses
Able to sit for 1.5 hours

Contact

Kayla Aikins
(775) 721-5220

Additional Study Details

Full Study Title
Manuscript: Effects of Text Supplementation and Facial Cues on Sentence Comprehension in Normal and Abnormal Hearing Audiences

Study ID: STUDY00021147

ClinicalTrials.gov Link:

Start Date: 10/01/2024

End Date: 01/31/2025

Investigator(s)
Gavriel Kohlberg, MD
Kayla Aikins, BS

Accepts Healthy Volunteers?
Yes

Study Site(s)

Institute for Learning & Brain Sciences (I-LABS) Portage Bay Building,

1715 NE Columbia Road, Seattle, WA
Seattle, Washington 98195

[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]

[vc_row css_animation=”” row_type=”row” use_row_as_full_screen_section=”no” type=”full_width” angled_section=”no” text_align=”left” background_image_as_pattern=”without_pattern”][vc_column][vc_column_text css=””] We are conducting a study to explore how people understand speech in different listening environments.
