Secondary objectives of this program include facilitating collaborative studies and attracting other scientists to research on the visual system. The center has four modules: Biochemistry/Immunology Module: Expertise in the production, characterization, and utilization of monoclonal antibodies for immunocytochemistry, in situ hybridization of ocular tissues Genotyping/phenotyping module: Mouse and zebrafish PCR genotyping, Electroretinograms for examining ocular phenotype, fluorescent microscopy to detect fluorescent chimeric proteins expressed in the eye of animal models. Morphological Imaging: electron microscopy of visual system, light microscopy and confocal microscopy for analysis visual system, preparation for illustrations and images for manuscripts, and posters. Psychophysics/Physiology Module: development of computer programs for video display, data acquisition and analysis, and hardware calibration for psychophysical experiments.
