07 Oct Exploring Disability Identity in Adults with Acquired Brain Injury
This study aims to understand how adults with an acquired brain injury think about their condition as part of who they are. We also want to know if certain factors and life experiences shape someone’s sense of identity. Ultimately, we want to identify ways to support positive sense of self after brain injury.
Participation in this study includes completing a one-time, online survey that takes about 30 minutes to complete, and the option to participate in a follow-up virtual focus group with other brain injury survivors. Technical assistance is available for completing the survey.
Participant Eligibility
To be eligible for the study, a participant must:
-Be 18 years of age or older.
-Have had an acquired brain injury (e.g., stroke, traumatic brain injury, anoxia).
-Be able to take an online survey in English.
-Not have considered themself to be disabled before their brain injury.
-Not have a progressive neurological condition (e.g., Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, dementia).
