Washington Pregnancy Biorepository

Washington Pregnancy Biorepository

The Washington Pregnancy Biorepository is a research study within the University of Washington Maternal-Fetal Medicine Research Division. By collecting biological samples and health information from pregnant individuals, researchers are working to improve our understanding of pregnancy and develop new ways to improve care for pregnant individuals and their babies.

The biorepository supports research aimed at advancing pregnancy care through:
– Earlier and more accurate diagnosis of pregnancy-related conditions
– New approaches to preventing and treating maternal and infant health complications
– More personalized care for pregnant individuals and their families
– A better understanding of pregnancy, fetal development, and long-term health outcomes

Participants may join the study at any point during pregnancy. Participation may include providing samples (such as blood, urine, and placenta), completing questionnaires, and allowing researchers to review pregnancy-related medical records.

Who can join?
– Pregnant individuals receiving obstetric care through University of Washington-affiliated clinics who are planning to deliver at UWMC – Montlake
– Individuals willing to provide biological samples or survey responses and allow researchers to collect pregnancy-related health information

What’s involved?
– Review and sign a consent form
– Provide study samples during some regularly scheduled prenatal visits and at delivery
– Complete a few brief surveys

Things to know:
– Research coordinators will assist through every step of participation, including coordinating sample collections.
– If you do not want to contribute samples, you can still participate by completing our Social Determinants of Health Survey.
– Participation is completely voluntary and will not affect your medical care, treatment, or birth experience.
– Your privacy is protected. Information collected for research is kept confidential and is not shared with your clinical care team.
