Endometriosis Dietary Study

Endometriosis Dietary Study

Active participation in the study is over a 12-week period. All participants will be asked to complete questionnaires online at 4 times during the study period (questionnaires focus on pain and quality of life questions)and are randomized to either a dietary intervention or a control group. The dietary intervention group will receive meals shipped to their home for the first 4 weeks and will receive dietary counseling throughout the 12 weeks to assist them in adhering to the study diet guidelines. Those who are randomized to the control group will be asked to eat their usual diet for 12 weeks and at the end of the study will receive a session with our study dietitian, all study materials, and $100. The key features of the dietary intervention is emphasis on intake of foods that are generally recognized as healthy (e.g. fruits, vegetables, whole grains, healthy fats) and avoidance/limited intake of foods that are considered unhealthy due to previously being associated with chronic disease risk (e.g., red meat, refined grains) – so it is not a restrictive diet, it just primarily emphasizes an overall healthy – but one that we have observed in observational studies lowers risk of pain related endometriosis diagnosis.
