University of Washington President to Offer Keynote on Engineering and Medicine at ITHS Expo in May

Expo 26 is right around the corner and ITHS has another impressive lineup of speakers and presenters for attendees this year. This year we’re proud to announce that the University of Washington President, Dr. Robert J. Jones, will be offering a keynote address, followed by remarks from Tueng Shen, MD, PhD, Associate Dean for Medical Technology Innovation, and inaugural director of the future Kren Engineering-based Medicine Institute (KEMi) between UW Medicine and College of Engineering.

Our theme is Engineering and Medicine, and both will be speaking about their experiences as pioneers in the field. Dr. Jones will discuss his efforts to stand up the first accredited medical school to marry both disciplines, and Dr. Shen will share her vision for KEMi. We’ll also have an opportunity to hear lightning talks from some of the most promising early-career entrepreneurs within the ITHS Technology Development Center.

This event will take place on Tuesday, May 12, at the UW Center for Urban Horticulture. Registration is open now!

Past Expos

The ITHS Expo is always a terrific showcase for early career investigators and entrepreneurs, while highlighting the fascinating work being done by our pilots, scholars and trainees. The work on display is all supported by ITHS and represents research happening across the translational spectrum. From our dynamic lightning talks to our poster session, this event is an annual favorite for all involved.

Previous ITHS Expos have been held at the University of Washington Husky Union Building, virtually during the Covid lockdown, and more recently at Burke Museum in 2022, at wǝɫǝbʔaltxʷ – Intellectual House in 2023, and at the Center for Urban Horticulture (CUH) since 2024. We’re pleased to be returning to the CUH this year! Read about Expo 25 here.

With attendees and presenters coming from across the region and from many different areas of health research, the event has always proven to be the perfect chance to network, learn and to celebrate translational science. Check out the video below and don’t forget to register!
