The ITHS Community Health Network (CHN) was established in November 2018 to bring community-driven health-related ideas to the forefront. Located in Washington’s King, Kitsap, Pierce, Yakima, and Benton Counties, the network consists of social and health organizations, hospitals and clinics, recreational facilities, school districts, faith-based organizations, and a radio station, food bank and farmers’ market. Members are experienced in community-engaged research, serving as advisors, consultants, and community investigators on research topics such as nutrition and food security, Alzheimer’s Disease, cancer screening, oral health, and palliative care. Studies span the translational science spectrum from basic/bench science, clinical research and implementation, and public health.
The CHN Coordinating Center supports investigator-initiated research and community-driven projects, facilitating community-academic matches to address community health priorities. Experienced faculty and staff provide training and consultation in community engagement, recruitment and retention, integration of community perspectives at all stages of research, qualitative research, human-centered design, and other related topics.
