Team Science Boot Camp 2020

Team Science Boot Camp 2020

Are you part of a research team that continually runs out of time at meetings?  Do you have all of the right people in the room, but struggle to stay on task?  Would you like to increase your team’s efficiency and effectiveness in working together? If yes, then the Team Science Boot Camp might be the right opportunity for you and your team!

The team science literature has demonstrated that highly functioning research teams are more productive (submitting manuscripts and subsequent grants) and have more discoveries than solo researchers. The Team Science Boot Camp strives to help teams function at their highest level. One Principal Investigator that previously participated in this Team Science Boot Camp shared their experience, “I am telling everyone about this and that they should sign up. It was like water to wine. I am a new leader and I was struggling with how I get them to have a feeling of a team, that we have a common goal and I could not make it happen. Now they feel more powerful, there is a feeling of team. We are working together.”

I am telling everyone about this and that they should sign up. It was like water to wine. I am a new leader and I was struggling with how I get them to have a feeling of a team, that we have a common goal and I could not make it happen. Now they feel more powerful, there is a feeling of team. We are working together.

The 3rd annual ITHS Team Science Boot Camp is being offered Monday, February 24 and Tuesday, February 25, 2020. The Team Science Boot Camp is a highly interactive training intended for interdisciplinary research teams working together on a translational research project/study or within a research center to learn the theory and practice of team science. The 1.5 day workshop if free. The requirements for attending the workshop include the following: an interdisciplinary research team with a specific translational research project, a minimum of 3 team members who can commit to attending the full 1.5-day training, and completion of pre-work. Participation in the training will be on a first come, first serve basis. Get your team ready to apply!

One of the greatest benefits of attending this Team Science Boot Camp is that teams that register will submit a current team challenge to be addressed during the 1.5-day workshop. Team Science leadership will tailor the training content toward addressing and solving specific team challenges. By attending the Team Science Boot Camp, your team will acquire strategies and tools to help you become more efficient and effective in your work together with stronger team relationships and strategies.

Examples of training content and activities include:

  • Teamwork (roles and responsibilities, team agreements, practical approaches to respectful and problem solving communication)
  • Awareness and adaptability of preferred working styles and modes for addressing conflict
  • Giving and receiving feedback
  • Meeting and time management
  • Coaching and mentoring
  • Leadership skills
  • Core concepts of Lean including managing aims and leading change

More details and registration information are now available at the Team Science Boot Camp event page.
