Call for Applications: All New 2027–2028 ITHS Pilot Awards

Applications are now open for the next round of ITHS Pilot Awards. The awards are all new for this application period and are designed to support innovative, high-impact translational research projects that have the potential to advance medical knowledge and improve human health. By offering seed funding, the program encourages investigators to explore new ideas, establish proof of concept, and generate preliminary data for larger, future grant applications.

Letters of Intent are due by August 24, 2026. Click on the links below to learn more and apply.

Which Funding Opportunity is Right for You?

Community-Academic Partnership Awards provide up to $50,000 to support research conceived and conducted through a partnership between a community organization and academic researchers. This award gives community organizations opportunities to initiate and help organize and lead health research projects addressing important needs that they identify in the communities that they serve.

New Translational Science Tools and Methodologies Awards offer $50,000 to support researchers who advance the development of new tools and technologies that can be generalized across the translational science spectrum. Projects that develop tools and methods that advance drug, device, and biomarker discovery are strongly encouraged!

Interdisciplinary Solution Development Awards support research teams that find new ways to adapt processes and methods outside the health sciences to accelerate clinical and translational science improvements. This award of up to $25,000 will go to partnerships between innovators with complementary expertise.

To assist scientific investigators in identifying partners for this collaborative pilot, ITHS will host a WWAMI-wide workshop focusing on community-identified health research roadblocks. Participants will share methods and resources that could be linked and adapted as a solution, sowing new interdisciplinary projects in workshop-generated connections. See the Interdisciplinary Solution Development RFA page for more details.

Recipients of ITHS Pilot Awards are also eligible to receive in-kind support and training. Contact us at ithspilots@uw.edu with any questions!
