Apply Now to the ITHS K12 Program for Funding and Support

Applications are due November 2, 2026 to join the ITHS K12 Multidisciplinary Clinical Research Career Development Program. The K12, previously known as the KL2, is an NIH-funded program, offering time, funding, mentorship and training to support the early career development of clinical and translational researchers.

Postdoctoral and early career faculty at the University of Washington, Seattle Children’s Research Institute, and Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center conducting translational research are encouraged to apply. Investigators selected for the program will receive:

  • Protected research time to pursue their research project and participate in K12 activities
  • Salary support covering a minimum of 75% of a scholar’s full-time salary
  • Research and career development funding to support research projects and career development opportunities including travel to professional meetings
  • Mentorship from ITHS K12 faculty to complement their career development
  • Interactive seminars providing in-depth training in skills crucial to conducting translational research, as well as opportunities to hone their presentation and writing skills

Please note, the ITHS KL2 program is becoming a K12 program pending grant funding changes. Two major ways the K12 differs from the KL2 are:

  • The program now provides 2 years of support (as opposed to 3).
  • The program will support a varying number of researchers each year, with priority given to specific research areas of the translational science spectrum each cycle. The 2027 award will prioritize proposals focused on clinical implementation.

*Clinical implementation involves the adoption of interventions that have been demonstrated to be useful in a research environment into routine clinical care for the general population. This stage also includes implementation research to evaluate the results of clinical trials and to identify new clinical questions and gaps in care.
