ITHS Technology and Resource Access Grants

The ITHS is pleased to announce the opportunity to apply for modest "technology access" grants. These grants will cover costs associated with the provision of services to you through an ITHS-approved facility core, shared resource, or cost center.

Purpose

The aims of the technology access grants are to:

  • Support the incorporation of new technologies into translational and clinical research.
  • Foster collaborations between approved applicants and technology service providers.
  • Encourage the utilization of the latest technologies and instrumentation into translational and clinical research.
  • Promote the career development of junior faculty members in the ITHS.

Technology Access Grants information:

  • Up to $10,000 per accepted applicant will be directly applied to the costs of the ITHS-approved facility core, shared resource or cost center.
  • The ITHS will pay the service provider directly.

Eligibility

Please refer to the technology examples page for specific examples of approved technology:

  • In general, the Principal Investigator must have a faculty title or equivalent.
  • If you have not already done so, you must join the ITHS prior to submitting the application. Please become an ITHS member. Applications from non-members will not be reviewed.
  • Special priority will be given to junior faculty with limited funding.
  • Special consideration will be given to first-time applicants.
  • The technology used in the proposal must be provided by an ITHS-approved technology service provider. A list of potential providers can be accessed via the links below. Utilization of resources not identified on these lists is also encouraged; contact ITHS staff in advance to discuss options.
  • The technology must be reasonably new to your own research program (i.e., these funds are not intended to subsidize continuing use of technologies).
  • The proposed research that will benefit the new technology must be readily identifiable as either "translational" or "clinical" in nature ((these funds are not intended to support basic research; see below for definitions of clinical and translational research).
  • The Principal Investigator (PI) will be responsible for clearly defining on the application how the proposed research has the potential to lead to direct applications in human health (e.g., prevention, diagnosis, treatment or assessment of a human disease or health outcome).
  • The PI is responsible for clearly describing how the new technology will provide a unique advantage to the proposed research.
  • The PI is responsible for discussing the study design with the technology service provider in detail before submitting the application. Doing so ensures the new technology is appropriate for the needs of the PI and identifies the technology service provider as capable of delivering the required services in the appropriate time with consideration to cost limitations, as identified in the application.
  • If you receive ITHS pilot funding you may not get it again for 2 years
