New ITHS Central Hub for NIH Diversity Supplements

New ITHS Central Hub for NIH Diversity Supplements

Diversity is a key element of excellence. Without a biomedical and health research workforce representative of its patients and participants, the research community cannot be truly excellent. As part of our efforts to increase diversity, ITHS is pleased to announce that in collaboration with Seattle Children’s Hospital, Fred Hutchison Cancer Research Center, and the University of Washington School of Public Health, we’re launching the new NIH Diversity Supplements (DS) Connections Hub.

The purpose of this new webpage is to provide principal investigators and eligible candidates with information about applying for NIH diversity supplements, as well as a link to our partner institutions pages where candidates can browse eligible projects. Diversity Supplements are administrative supplements sponsored by the NIH, intended to help increase the number of underrepresented and disadvantaged scientists in biomedical and behavioral research.

Our goal is to increase the number of diversity supplements awarded across our partner institutions, thus helping us to continue to grow our diverse research workforce. Tumaini Rucker Coker, MD, MBA, Director of Research at the Center for Diversity & Health Equity at Seattle Children’s Hospital and Co-Director of ITHS Integrating Special Populations shares, “I am excited that students, trainees, and early career faculty from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds in medicine and science will now have a centralized website to help them find potential matches with PIs across our three ITHS institutions. The NIH Diversity Supplement Award is an amazing opportunity for aspiring and new researchers—so anything that we can do to support these applications, can have a big impact on our future research workforce.”

I am excited that students, trainees, and early career faculty from underrepresented and disadvantaged backgrounds in medicine and science will now have a centralized website to help them find potential matches with PIs across our three ITHS institutions.

We encourage program directors/principal investigators and potential diversity supplement candidates to explore this page and those of all three institutions to learn more about these valuable funding opportunities.
