Foundations of Clinical Research

Newly hired research assistants and coordinators will benefit from the Foundations of Clinical Research to provide a broad overview of clinical research, roles and responsibilities, regulations underpinning all research with human volunteers (e.g., Belmont Report, Helsinki Report, HIPAA), tools used in study conduct, and hints and other resources. Completing all components of the recorded video will require approximately 3 hours.

Researchers, human resources professionals and research administrators may distribute the link to the recorded video, and use the slide template and presenter’s guide to customize content to apply to technical platforms in use at the organization (e.g., electronic health record, clinical trial management system, and institutional review board). Customized training can be recorded and made available to new employees on the ITHS Translational Research Education Engine (TREE) or posted on internal web sites.

Content has been categorized by beginning, intermediate, and advanced levels. The TREE records the status of users and provides certificates of completion for users completing all modules in each level. Employers can monitor the progress of employees.
